Supporting Children with Autism Through Creative Expression and Community

On October 26, 2025, Bridge to the Future sponsored a two-hour community art event designed specifically to support children with autism and their families. The event created a safe, welcoming space where children could engage in hands-on, sensory-friendly activities while parents connected with one another and shared resources.

Throughout the event, children participated in calming and creative activities such as folding towel bears, painting masks, and shaping figures with play-doh. These activities encouraged fine motor skill development, creativity, and emotional regulation, allowing children to express themselves at their own pace. Many children found the art stations especially soothing; some proudly shared their creations with others, fostering moments of social interaction and confidence-building.

With the help of volunteers and family members, participants worked together to fold over 100 towel bears, which were later packaged with bear-making supplies and donated to children in hospitals. This collaborative effort gave children a meaningful opportunity to contribute to helping others, reinforcing empathy and a sense of purpose.

Beyond the art activities, the event provided vital support for families. Parents exchanged practical guidance on special education programs, government assistance resources, medical services, and strategies for promoting independence in children with autism. For many families, this gathering offered reassurance that they are not alone, strengthening a sense of community and mutual support.

Overall, the event successfully combined creativity, service, and shared learning to create a positive and impactful experience—supporting the emotional well-being of children with autism while empowering families through connection and shared knowledge.
